Press Release 14 Jan 2010

Canon compact cameras:
current (January 2010) situation

Current situation with compact Canon cameras which can be controlled from PC.

Compact Canon camera controlled from PC with inPhoto TWAIN driver was a perfect solution for various applications. The price / quality ratio was excellent. But unfortunately all current compact Canon cameras are not supported remotely from PC and all new compact Canon cameras will not be supported remotely from PC because Canon company discontinued its SDK for compact cameras. This is a policy of a Big Company and there is nothing to do here. Canon SX110 IS and Canon G10 are last supported cameras. All new Canon compact cameras are not supported and cannot be supported.

All other internationally known digital camera manufacturers do not provide SDK, and it means that other brand cameras can not be supported from PC. We did search for other cameras but for now we have not found anything, and even if we found any suitable Chinese camera we could not guarantee its quality and reliability.

For ID photo purposes the following options are available now:

Use Canon reflex (SLR) camera fully controlled with inPhoto Capture SLR or inPhoto ID SLR software for ID photo imaging. Please read 11 PROS to use Canon SLR camera for ID photography.

Use web camera (e.g. Logitech camera) fully controlled with inPhoto ID WDM software for ID photo imaging.
